A key component in rebuilding cartilage and connective tissues, are Glucosamines and GAG’s (Glycosaminoglycans/ Mucopolysaccharides). GAG’s consist of precursors such as Glycosaminoglycans and Chondroitin sulphates which provide the necessary building blocks to rebuild cartilage and connective tissues.

Omega-3 fatty acids are considered essential fatty acids (EFA’s), which means that they are essential to our pets health, but cannot be manufactured by the body. Omega-3 fatty acids must be obtained from food.

Omega-3 fatty acids can be found in marine products such the New Zealand Green Lipped Mussel.

It is important to maintain an appropriate balance of Omega-3 as it plays a crucial role in brain function as well as normal growth and development.

These EFA’s considered beneficial for the body is EPA, DHA, ETA and ALA.

ALA is known to convert to EPA and DHA:

EPA assists with skin permeability, condition and tone, with other physiological functions, such as nail strength. EPA assists in the reduction of cholesterol and saturated fat consumption.
EPA is also an anti-inflammatory, beneficial for conditions such as osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.

DHA performs many biological benefits for the body.
The brain is composed of 10% DHA, and higher levels of DHA are associated with greater intelligence.
DHA is also critical for the health of the eyes.

EPAs and DHAs help maintain the fluidity of cell membranes, so assisting nutrient delivery to the cell, and toxic metabolic by-product removal. They also help keep the blood slippery thereby assisting with circulation.
